Well,
it has been a busy week here at Croí na Gaillimhe!
First
up on Monday, the new Life Skills course took place; the course is run by AWARE
and will take place on Monday mornings over the next 6 weeks from 10am to
11.30am. All places on this course are currently completely booked but anyone
interested in the programme, should contact AWARE at either www.aware.ie or on 1890 303 302 for further information.
Our
second event was certainly very exciting as the fantastic intergenerational project
‘Living Scenes’ draws to a close for another year. All the participants joined
members of the Social Club, SVP and representatives from Galway Community
College and NUI, Galway to celebrate their achievements. Ably introduced by
Loretta, Professor Tom Scharf, Director of the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology at NUI
Galway, Ireland spoke of the lovely opportunities provided by the project for the
participants to learn from each other and to experience life through the eyes
of another generation.
Next
Hedy Gibbons, our wonderful creative facilitator spoke about the joy of working
with the group and how they incorporated their own individual experiences into their
work. Hedy then introduced several members of the group who read from the wide
range of pieces that they had created over the past few months during the
creative writing module.
Maria
Moore, from Galway Community College, explained how they combined artwork with
each stage of the programme this year; leading to the creation of some of the beautiful
pieces of artwork currently on display in the centre.
Dr.
Mary Surlis, spoke about the impact of the programme throughout the country but
also on an individual level for the participants.
Perhaps
the most momentous point of the afternoon was still to come; Maria Moore
invited each participant to receive their certificate and booklet of creative
writing and art work.
It
was a truly lovely afternoon where all participants gave voice to their over-whelming
positive experiences and memories of the Living Scenes programme 2011 – 2012.
Keep
an eye out for photos which will be posted shortly!!
